What happens to textile waste at DRYKORN?

In the 2024/25 financial year, we handed over 1.89 tonnes of fabric samples and irreparable returns to TURNS®. The start-up has set itself the goal of closing the fibre loop through recycling. This means that textile waste is turned back into high-quality yarn. This isn’t always possible; depending on the fibre blend, in some cases only downcycling (e.g. into painter’s drop cloth) or thermal recovery – i.e. disposal, not recycling – is feasible. In the 2024/25 financial year, 234 kg of our waste was turned back into fibres, 829 kg was downcycled and 774 kg was disposed of.

Together with TURNS®, we designed a product in 2025 that not only looks good but also helps us raise awareness. After all, genuinely recycled material accounts for just 0.4 per cent of our entire product portfolio (financial year 2024/25), and TURNILA does nothing to change that – but the blanket demonstrates what is technically possible. And even though we are only at the beginning of the textile circular economy, TURNILA demonstrates that drive and innovation lead to the solutions our industry needs.
